作品賞析
Artist Shiau Bei-Chen’s “Framing Stillness” series of works mainly captures a certain kind of dim, ambiguous scenery existing in memory. In the picture, light green trees depicted from a overlooking angle view surround some buildings. There is only one obviously blue spot—the roof of a building—but that is cast in a blurry shadow, with only a vague outline of something hidden behind it. Shiau Bei-Chen used pastel and acrylic to paint images on a translucent epoxy resin sheet, brushed off the color to create a hazy feeling, and then covered it with a layer of epoxy resin. By repeated layering, a hazy picture is created. It is realistic and dreamy at once, like the blurry scenery in fleeting memory. For the artist, the clear black lines that appear here and there in his works suggest of the way he himself tries to capture the vague and difficult-to-paint scenery in his mind as he paints.
