SHIAU Bei-Chen's painting uses a fuzzy and out-of-focus image to dialectically examine the relationship between image viewing and memory. The work, View 2015-9, presents a blurry and illegible image with a stack of epoxy resin and acrylic paint. In the picture, the houses, trees and forests are faintly identified, and the forest is covered with an orange layer with a close-up view of the white ground. The world seen through glasses or without glasses is the same reality, but it is also different. The blurry image, like fleeting landscapes outside the car windows or distant memories, leaves only fragments of sound, temperature, smell, and light. For SHIAU Bei-Chen, these seemingly familiar scenes appear to be closer to the reality in memory through blurry images.
