HSIAO Bei-Chen presents actual and familiar landscapes in a blurred, unstable fashion to highlight the physical presence of the landscape effectively. Blurred and out-of-focus images were used in the artworks to explore the reality of visual observations. View 2010-29 used oils, glue paints, and crayons to create a blurred view of a realistic landscape. The images were then sealed with layers of epoxy resin to contain the sounds, temperature, smells, and light of the environment. The color blocks resemble plots of paddy fields, trees, and corrugated zinc buildings, helping to present a blurred countryside as it would appear from a moving train.
