SHIAU Bei-Chen uses an out-of-focus image to portray a fleeting scene outside a car window. View 2013-18 portrays a moving landscape. Faraway buildings and trees are shown as though they are rushing past, with houses and road-side trees blending together, reducing the original, familiar, and common landscape into a barely recognizable view. The shifting image blurs the outlines of the scenery and creates a frozen display of the trails of time, lighting, and temperature. The seemingly ordinary colors and composition provide a serene and isolated sensation. SHIAU Bei-Chen uses common and daily scenery to record a transient moment and explores the relationship between memories and images.
