HSIAO Pei-Chen hopes to use art to convey intimate yet obscure imageries and memories. In Scene of the Studio 2006-3, off-white and light gray tones were used to illustrate the corrugated iron buildings outside his workshop. By using a semi-transparent white pastel, HSIAO Pei-Chen has suppressed the once chaotic lines of the constructs and created a foggy yet romantic atmosphere. HSIAO Pei-Chen also mixed acrylic paint with epoxy resin, allowing the paint to dissolve within the solvent. The unique property of this combined art media gave the resulting work a powerful layering effect. HSIAO Pei-Chen’s works are realistic and depict dreamlike landscapes like the subtle and muddled landscapes that flashes past us in our memories.
