SHIAU Bei-Chen's View 2015-30 is from his landscape series. He uses epoxy resin and acrylic paint to create a unique visual experience like glass. The work is based on his experience of taking the high-speed rail. He observed the fast and blurry scenery outside the window and transformed his experience into the artwork, discussing the inexplicable sense of visual and psychological separation under high-speed travel. The work tries to reproduce the external world as perceived through glass. To SHIAU Bei-Chen, the transparent and ambiguous perception through glass blocks the connection between people and the outside world, but visually allows us to look outside without any barriers. What people see is both real and illusion, or, as revealed by Renaissance painting, painting is a window to the world.
