HSIAO Bei-Chen presents actual and familiar landscapes in a blurred, unstable fashion to highlight the physical presence of the landscape effectively. Blurred and out-of-focus images were used in the artworks to explore the reality of visual observations. The development of photography provided a creative source for visual arts and a new challenge to how people interpret their observations. For a shortsighted person, however, the same world with and without glasses can be very different. The ability to define the truth without the use of any physical support becomes an interesting topic of contemplation. View 2013-16 simulates a distant landscape with tangible or intangible barriers. The picture is provided in warm colored tones, but viewers can only barely make out the forms of the buildings and roads.
