In ink painting, various brushstroke methods in ink painting are often used to create the overall topology of mountains, but the artist Yang Tzu-Yi thinks about how to use new techniques to construct a new type of landscape. He breaks the mountains down into geometric blocks and creates a spatial relationship between foreground and distant mountains through the repeated application of light ink layers that are reorganized into landscape images. In Crossing the River, he used the traditional compositional structure of “one river and two banks” to compose the painting. On the right, a mountain structure is formed by layering many geometric forms, and the gap between two large black blocks seems like a waterfall. The greenish color that appears through the layers of ink suggests the greenness of the mountains. The triangle in the upper left is an island in the distance, and the blank space shows the expanse of river between the two banks. This describes the source of the title: Crossing the River.
