YANG Zi-Yi uses urban spaces and construction ruins as the artistic theme. Artificial traces in space are used to explore issues related to conflicts and coexistence between artificial elements and nature. Pool is a glue painting of brilliant, fantasy hues. The composition depicts a world where natural landscapes co-exist with artificial buildings. Purple mountain ranges stand outside the window, with natural pines and buildings hidden behind the smoky mists. A water pond, furnished with landforms similar to those presented by traditional Chinese ink paintings, is placed next to the window, initiating an interesting dialog between the actual visage outdoors and the decorative pond indoors. YANG Zi-Yi creates a mythological world in an attempt to explore the roots of urban development and progress of civilization as well as the value of natural sights in a time of changing historical and cultural norms.
