作品賞析
Unlike most ink paintings, The Mountain does not have a complete landscape structure or a subject-object hierarchy, and the scene is even out of focus, but we can still sense the poetry of the scene through the haze and chaos. Yang Tzu-Yi uses the thinnest layers of ink wash and deconstructs the mountain into its simplest geometric block surfaces, then shapes the imagined scene with the three simple colors of black, gray, and white. “The simplest things can embody the deepest connotations.” Landscapes actually represent nature, which is all-encompassing; the world operates according to certain principles, and nature faithfully presents them. Hence, for thousands of years, ink painters have been searching for the principles by which the universe operates through landscapes. The literati painted them, but those landscapes are distant from us, so Yang Tzu-Yi attempts to sketch the kind of image in his spirit and create contemporary imressions of the mountains and rivers.
