HSU Jui-Fu’s painting uses seemingly decaying objects in the nature as subjects and elements for observation, trying to explore different meanings of life beyond the appearance of all things. The work, View from the Mountain-2, continues to use nature as the observational element, forming a view of an imaginary mountain from the complex features of the canvas. For him, the mountain is an indicator of his hometown, and the scenery will always remind him of his memory he has for “home”. HSU Jui-Fu transforms the image of his hometown in memory, surrounded by mountains and greenery, into a fantastical world presented by the fine sketches of a pencil. The gray picture that seems to lack in vitality is in fact a turning point in life that serves as a new starting point for prosperity.
