HSU Jui-Fu’s works are inspired by meticulous observation of decaying objects. Repeated and detailed brush strokes transform various aspects of decomposition into deep and poetic artworks. In Yogurt-1, HSU Jui-Fu observed fungal spores growing on decaying yogurt. HSU Jui-Fu made use of layers of smudges stacked upon each other to recreate the beauty of a replicating army of spores. Red, blue, and purplish bulges connected to each other compose an alien and fantastic realm beyond our imaginations. HSU Jui-Fu believes that ugly things can also be interpreted beautifully by viewing it from another perspective. Art allows HSU Jui-Fu to transform scenes of biological decay and filth into a spiritual and emotional landscape of meaningful prose.
