HSU Jui-Fu's painting uses material that appears to be decaying as the objects of observation and elements, trying to find the different meanings of life underneath the surface of all things. The work, Bamboo Leaves, is drawn with a pencil. In the picture, the fine and complicated technique is used to describe the way the bamboo leaves fall and pile up. The fallen bamboo leaves are no longer nourished and are gradually withering and dying. They cover the soil densely, and although they are slowly decaying, they will be transformed into another state of matter and become a source of nutrients for the land. The gray gloomy picture seems lifeless and lacks vitality and whatever is hidden behind may also be another starting point for life.
