TAO Kang’s modernist ink painting is based upon the atmosphere of his age and surroundings, and conveys the emotional state in human society by creating a rational, cold, and calculating atmosphere. Cornered Beast (7) is a dissection and composition of geometric shapes. The starry-shaped white spots distributed against the black background provide an outwardly spatial atmosphere where isolated microscopic organisms are restricted to their respective islands or mountain peaks. Even though the creatures are reduced to their skeletons, they remain walking, flying, and fighting. TAO Kang uses a unique vocabulary of modernist ink painting to deconstruct the tradition, leading viewers to contemplate the meaning of existence by witnessing the nature of life itself.
