TAO Kang has lost family members to a car accident, leading to his negativity and uncertainty of people around him. This, however, gave him the impetus to compose the artwork Create the Human – Human. The work is composed of 7 abstract figures that lack distinct outlines and expressions. Instead, a great number of brushstrokes have been overlapped to form man-shaped images. The ink spots of varying shades seem to illustrate the artist’s observations and experiences on human nature. To TAO Kang, the external appearance of the individual should not be the governing aspect. Instead, the people’s ability to appreciate differences between backgrounds and how they interact with others should be regarded as the most truthful dimension of human nature.
