There is always an intricate relationship between painting and photography, which generate fascinating sparks when they influence each other and blend together. The inspiration for the work Bird 2102 comes from bird photography. Bird-lovers usually take photos of birds from a distance, through long telephoto lenses, but the birds being photographed are completely unaware of it. The artist Chi Chien finds this relationship very interesting, so he started a series of works based on bird photography. In these works, he disassembles the aviphiles’ bird images, replaces the original photography background with canvas, presents the shadows of the photographed birds and branches on the canvas, and reconstructs the real space of the image, which is the painting itself. At the same time, the branch shadows hint at the possibility of more than one light source, or even more than one time frame, thus creating more room for the imagination.
