作品賞析
Artist Lee Zih Cing discusses the process of the birth and death of all phenomena in the universe through this sculpture, Homologous, which symbolizes that every seemingly unique human being actually has the same origins. The basis for her conception of the shapes of the four parts of this sculpture come from the cells that make up all living things, and she uses a mandrel to connect the materials that make them up—stone, wood, fossils, and metal. Differently colored stone is used as metaphors for the characteristics of different things. The combination of different materials like this creates a different appearance in each instance, which expresses the idea that “everything in nature is independent but interrelated.” The lines cut into the sculptures’ bases also unite the four separate items into a series. The four items together show a progression, “from birth to bloom,” which conceivably can be infinitely extended. This breaks through the stereotyped image of stone as belonging to the past.
