TSENG Mei-Chen uses wood engraving printing to create a series of carved landscapes. The artwork Landscape of Words – I Ching shows a long scroll depicting cliffs and rocks. The artist combined the conceptual forms of Chinese pictographs and stripped the outlines of the landscape to its unadulterated forms to represent the forces and artworks of nature as well as the mysteries behind Chinese calligraphy. The seemingly abstract lines in the center of the composition are I Ching symbols that describe the unpredictable nature of life. TSENG Mei-Chen molds natural forms and words as well as eastern and western philosophies to create a relationship between external elements and personal self and between virtual and realistic elements.
