TSENG Mei-Chen uses wood engraving printing to create a series of carved landscapes. The artwork Landscape of Words – Triptych shows three similar coastal landscapes with steep rock surfaces. Patches of black and white are used to create different light and shadow effects and depict three different yet symmetric landscapes. The artwork portrays the transforming nature of the past, present, and future of life. The artist combined the conceptual forms of Chinese pictographs and stripped the outlines of the landscape to its unadulterated forms to represent the forces and artworks of nature as well as the mysteries behind Chinese calligraphy. TSENG Mei-Chen molds natural forms and words as well as eastern and western philosophies to create a relationship between external elements and personal self and between virtual and realistic elements.
