Lin Yi-Chun’s works feature color blocks that imitate paper cutouts, and they center on life’s vagaries and impermanence, its consumption by time. In this work, Lin uses the idea of “time editing” to combine different moments in life when she felt the peace and beauty of being in contact with nature or plants. By simplifying, breaking apart, and scattering the paper across the canvas, the concept of “both broken and complete” is conveyed. In addition, Lin repeatedly  added or removed the paper scraps, making the creative process discontinuous and in constant flux. Through this creative method, the concept of time is disassembled, and the linear relationship between past, present, and future is broken. Finally, it may seem that the upper left corner is missing, but this is actually an echo of the fragmentation expressed in the work—it is a challenge to our pre-existing concept of “completeness.”
