In LIN Yi-Chun’s series, Wonderful Moment, the artist explores the concept of a “time montage,” compressing, fracturing, and stacking up feelings and emotional impacts that one has experienced in life at different times, creating a Kaleidoscope-like picture full of color. Repeatedly applying adhesive tape and color to the canvass and then ripping off the tape, she demonstrates the incomplete and fractured nature of memory. Wonderful Moment-15 & 16, with its white and light-gray pale coloration, gives one a visual sense of observing the past from behind a screened glass window. Lin turns her own memory and feelings into abstract form in her paintings and through irregular, geometric patterns of overlapping color fields, creates a fragmentary, scattered “ambience of memory.”
