In LIN Yi-Chun’s series, Wonderful Moment, the artist explores the concept of a “time montage,” compressing, fracturing, and stacking up feelings and emotional impacts that one has experienced in life at different times, creating a Kaleidoscope-like picture full of color. Repeatedly applying adhesive tape and color to the canvass and then ripping off the tape, she demonstrates the incomplete and fractured nature of memory. With a collage of colored paper covering the canvass in her Wonderful Moment-31, the artist tries to depict paper-cut fragments from her childhood as they float in the air. Lin turns her own memory and feelings into abstract form in her paintings and through irregular, geometric patterns of overlapping color fields, creates a fragmentary, scattered “ambience of memory.”
