LIU Yi-Lan’s works feature powerful autobiographical features that adopts a strongly personalized approach to convey her innermost experiences. Immortal is not the lover but love is a continuation of her focus on the emotional themes related to people and their families. The work features the 3 phases of romantic life, namely childhood, middle-age, and old age. The couple is shown holding hands, then arm and arm, and finally leaning on each other’s shoulders. These different stages convey the artist’s personal dreams for an emotional sanctuary that remains strong even though life ebbs away with no hope of return. LIU Yi-Lan uses the process of creation to provide a subsumed conveyance of her heartfelt and sincere emotions and beliefs.
