Artwork Appreciation
The core concept in the artist Kao Ya-Ting’s creations is trying to incorporate the cultural context she is interested in into the process of every painting, while at the same time tallying with the contemporary digital visual experience. In Taroko Gorge, the inspiration came from visiting the popular site, and the main subject is Taroko Gorge’s scenery. But here the contrast between light and dark has been eliminated, and the “realistic” vision has been replaced by dots and large blocks of color, which flatten the three-dimensional space. In other words, she uses the distribution of colors to reinterpret her perception of the landscape. Besides challenging and reshaping the sense of space, the various colors in the painting are also like a new language. For Kao Ya-Ting, every tree, even if they are uniformly green, emits a different energy, so she uses different colors and delicate layers to transform the energy that she senses in her heart into the painting. This free use of color leads viewers to see the rock walls of Taroko from another perspective.
