Artwork Appreciation
KAO Ya-Ting’s works have always focused upon the contradictory attraction and separation between the human race and nature, and the artist employs art to illustrate her fantasies and imaginations. KAO Ya-Ting is skilled in using brilliant tones to create a natural visage that leads viewers into an abstract visual experience. Kingbee No. 7 is an artwork of her Hive series. Bright, neon colors were used to create a male portrait. The man’s body, however, is surrounded by a dense mantle of colorful bees, leaving only his face and hair exposed. People naturally will not place bees upon themselves. KAO Ya-Ting’s work of a man covered in bees is employed as a critique of the human fantasy of mastering nature itself, infused with her personal ideas and communicating her fantasies and observations of the urban and the natural world.
