Artwork Appreciation
Artist HO Huey-Chih is adept at creating still lives with exquisite, complex brushstrokes, seeking subjects from everyday objects and food common in Taiwan and arranging them on the canvas.
Taiwan has been called the Kingdom of Fruit. In Fresh Formosan Fruits, she presents a variety of fruits grown in abundance in Taiwan, including crisp, sweet guavas, tasty pomelos, tangy pitayas and juicy watermelons. This sumptuous spread evokes visual delight and gives the viewer the sense of a bountiful feast. In this painting, Ho preserves gustatory memories of this island.
