Artwork Appreciation
YUAN Hui-Li creates landscapes with ink and glue, and builds the illusion of a heterogeneous world. In Ambiguous World No.34, colorful paints are drawn on the gold lacquer, forming a wrinkle texture. It’s arranged like a Chinese landscape painting, the gold lacquer symbolizes the glimmering lake, raging stones and mountains on the surface, pastel clouds surround the mountains, creating an ambiguous and complex atmosphere. YUAN Hui-Li fuses the old and new wrinkle texture, and hides modern people’s complex twisted profiles in those seemingly traditional Chinese Shan Shui. Being artificially natural becomes the internality of modern Shan Shui.
