The work Take Me with You #1 is one of the works in artist Liao Meng-Ling’s “Floating Series.” This series is inspired by the enjoyment of contemplation during “alone time” while taking baths. She uses intaglio printing techniques and combines abstract color blocks with childish lines to construct her own imaginary world. The large areas of blank space make the scenery in the painting seem to be floating in the air or on the water. The simple sketches of boats, birds, and flowers are full of childlike interest, while the people wandering through the scene are metaphors for the people in the world. The little girl in the work looks thoughtfully into the distance, as if considering which direction to go. At the time of its creation, Liao Meng-Ling’s daughter was in the growing stage and was gradually getting ideas of her own. The artist used blue color blocks to create an atmosphere of reason and order, thus building an imaginary world that her daughter could observe with ease.
