The work Sail to My Dream #1 is one of the works of the artist Liao Meng-Ling’s “Floating Series,” which was inspired by the enjoyment of contemplation in “alone time” while taking baths. She uses intaglio printing techniques and combines abstract color blocks with childish lines to construct her own imaginary world. The large area of blank space makes the scenery in the painting seem to be floating in the air or on the water. The mountains, forests, vegetation, stars, moon and clouds are all integrated into the imaginary world. As Liao Meng-Ling watched her daughter grow, her perspective on the world returned to simplicity and childishness, so she created simple patterns of boats, birds, flowers, plants, and so on, which made her feel like she was experiencing childhood again. In the picture, there is a dreamy garden composed of pink and green plants. The little people wandering through the scene are projections of characters in the world, and the little girl represents her daughter. Liao Meng-Ling thus constructed for her daughter an imaginary environment where she could relax and observe the world.
