LIAO Meng-Ling has etched her innermost sensations and emotions upon wooden blocks. Song of Cicadas is made using Intaglio printing. Outward of botanical species are transformed into freely flowing lines and blocks. Color grade shading is then employed to create a hazy atmosphere. LIAO Meng-Ling’s Song of Cicadas can be divided into 2 layers – calligraphic black dots, lines, and circular imageries flowing along the canvas, and large irregular petal-like blocks of green and black color prints that present the texture of wood. Together, the blocks and lines weave a simple yet dynamic melody. With this liberal and relaxing visual language, LIAO Meng-Ling was able to create unique works to convey aspects of her emotional world.
