LIAO Meng-Ling has etched her innermost sensations and emotions upon wooden blocks. Silent Night is made using Intaglio printing. Outward of botanical species are transformed into freely flowing lines and blocks. Color grade shading is then employed to create a hazy atmosphere. LIAO Meng-Ling’s Silent Night depicts black calligraphic strokes dancing in a continuous flow against a textured background. Petal-like blocks of blue and green create semi-transparent and elegantly toned textures, intermingling with the lines to compose a simple yet dynamic melody. With this liberal and relaxing visual language, LIAO Meng-Ling was able to create unique works to convey aspects of her emotional world.
