作品賞析
When she saw fallen dead branches and withered petals while taking a walk, the artist Kim Hyun-Jin thought about the question, “What is the meaning of life?” and thus developed her “Existence” series of prints. On the right side of the print, a blue-green human-shaped head with a somewhat melancholy expression stares directly at us. On the left side, there is a flattened green human figure, standing alone with head lowered, as if in mourning for the dry plants scattered through the sad, lonely scene. To create this work, Kim uses Picasso’s favorite viscosity printing technique, in which only one plate is used for repeated engraving and color printing. It is a reductive process, in which one carves the plate until almost nothing is left that can be colored, and it tests the carving skills of the artist. The complex, delicate lines abundantly convey Kim’s prowess at printmaking.
