KIM Hyun-Jin’s mainly employs print art with multi-printing procedures in order to present a brilliantly colored and harmonic composition that is both simple and provides a story-like form. Wooden panels are used as the base material, undergoing repeated prints and color overlaps to present a diversity of color changes. Expectation-2 is a work from the self-portrait series of the artist and portrays the artist’s unknown future. People’s expectations give rise to dreams, and the colorful rain drops in the surroundings serve to irrigate the seeds of our dreams to help it germinate and grow. The work calls upon viewers to harbor hope for our future and face it with a smile. The process of creating this artwork is chiefly guided by color, reflecting chiaroscuro and color effects as well as real and imaginary elements upon each other to depict a tapestry illustrating a realm of fantasy.
