In A Familiar Strange Land 05, CHENG Cheng-Huang applies mild woodcut print with gradience of ink, and the depth and intuitive strokes of woodcut to deliver the concept of an individual and the world. Dry and rugged mountains and rocks comprise the main part, no green can be seen, only withered branches; the mountain spring, waterfall and river add vitality to the desolate world, then a rushing stream and waterfull seize our attention, are something inside seems to be triggered. CHENG Cheng-Huang depicts the sense of the shrinking body and the expanding consciousness, whatever we see must connotes the whole, a cave for a world, intertwined yet separable, complicated but ordered, steep and coarse, ethereal and sometimes utterly silent.
