LI Ping-Yi’s works are based on real life and convert daily objects and creatures into imaginary elements. Asian arowana – Blue shows a uniquely colored Arowana fish, two shrimps, and strange looking aquatic plants that co-exist in this strange ecosystem. Graded tones overlap to form the warm and vibrant color scheme of the composition. LI Ping-Yi shatters the realist dictum of the survival of the fittest, creating instead a novel and imaginary vision where every natural element harmoniously coexists with one another.
