LI Ping-Yi is a print artist who employs surrounding flora and fauna as her artistic object, combining, hybridizing, and grafting them to form the denizens of her fantasy world. Enrich a Novel Ecosystem shows two pangolin-like creatures with plants growing from their heads crawling upon a traditonal tiled floor. These cranial plants would themselves sustain other plants and light bulbs, creating an alien and artificial ecosystem. Multiple woodblocks were used to generate overlapping prints that range from deep, saturated colors to light, transparent shades. The final artwork is a multi-layered composition with pastel-like finish. LI Ping-Yi utilized the artwork to create an imaginary and novel indoor ecosystem with self-contained cycles that is capable of sustaining itself.
