作品賞析
LI Ping-Yi is a print artist who employs surrounding flora and fauna as her artistic object, integrating and grafting them to form imaginary creatures. In Half Moon, a Siamese fighting fish has its flamboyant fins replaced by dynamically lobed ferns. LI Ping-Yi has harmoniously grafted the fern leaves upon her pet fish to generate a seemingly natural organism. Multiple woodblocks were used to generate overlapping prints that range from deep, saturated colors to light, transparent shades. The final artwork is a multi-layered composition with pastel-like finish. LI Ping-Yi believes that grafting different species together is a metaphorical expression of her efforts to graft herself into urban lifestyles after moving away from her home village. The Siamese fighting fish and the ferns thus represent an episode of a village girl’s life in the city.
