HSIAO Chu-Fang expresses a fragmented sense of reality in a light-hearted, comical style that resembles the simple doodling of a child. Much of her work includes human figures as a central motif, with vivid characters that react with various states of human emotion. In Please Don’t, a giant figure dominating the painting, his eyes crisscrossed with blood vessels, conveys an intense feeling. The corner of his mouth is slanted upward as he maliciously points his finger, chiding a small figure who is squeezed into the bottom corner. The eyes of the agitated small figure are smudged with black. Hsiao presents a brisk painting style with bold, succinct lines and color, using her unique sense of humor and philosophy of life to dispel the negative feelings of helplessness in our lives.
