CHEN Ting-Chun’s “Studio No. 3” depicts a corner of the studio. Through a simple and clean spatial sense, the artist presents a collage of various everyday objects. Using flat color application, Chen produces color blocks to depict the furnace, desk and chair, and boxes; combined with the wall and the surface of the table formed by large color blocks, the artist examines the daily working space. This series of paintings that focus on interior spaces is inspired by the workers’ housing in Finland during the 1920s. Chen uses own sentiments, through artistic language, to make the spaces in her work narrate about certain time periods or certain stories.
