Artwork Appreciation
JHAN Jhuang-Syuan’s works focus on the relationship between people and their spaces. Undeserving II illustrates a messy, poorly furnished indoor space. The badly illuminated room is littered with all manner of household utensils and random objects, while the metal roof and roof beams are exposed. A white-colored silhouette of a flower was cut out from the composition, leaving an obvious mark of its existence. The silhouette, or hole, shows that the room was undeserving of the flower, symbolizing a memory that was forcibly removed. JHAN Jhuang-Syuan uses coffee tones and impressionist brushstrokes to create a spatial atmosphere and dilapidated sceneries of life that are based upon personal experiences of growing up.
