Artwork Appreciation
Artist WU Yi-Tze is good at creation of oil paintings. His work Soul Landscape series is a creation taking daily landscape as the theme. In the work Two House, he takes the materials from the usually seen landscape of metal hut, standpipe, and farm. The arrangement of huts in the work is a simile to the mental world of ego. In the image, the neighboring buildings imply the self-positioning of the artist. The grey and dark hue like night or cloudy day shows the tranquility, vanity, vacuity, and in security felt by the artist as staying alone in a dark room at midnight. Through his works, WU Yi-Tze explains the relationship of mutual struggle between the internal self and the external reality. He presents the image by combining the insecurity and irony he felt in life and the external landscape in the plane painting. He hopes to look for the spiritual peace in the chaotic reality in this way.
