作品賞析
The artist Li Yu-Chen once expressed her expectations for her work by saying, “Everyone has the memory of being connected to nature. I hope that my work can become like a bait that triggers the viewer’s memory.” The work One Day . . . depicts the intertidal zone scenery she happened to see during low tide as a resident artist at Kinmen. She used a wide-angle view to keep the Kinmen shoreline in the frame. The sea’s surface reflects the clouds and mists on the horizon. At low tide, one can vaguely see tilted white columnar objects. These are “anti-landing piles,” a defensive fortification that was used in the 1950s war between the KMT and Communist Party to prevent enemy troops from landing. The color of the sea water is blue with a touch of gray, and the clouds and mist are also gray-white. The overall picture presents a grayish tone that describes the history of Kinmen’s past wars. She deliberately turned the anti-landing piles from their original black color to blank white, thus “excavating” the scene and implying that she looks forward to the day when such defensive fortifications are no longer needed.
