Li Yu-Chen’s landscape prints seemingly possess a magical power, and their unique tones evoke an ancient world untouched by civilization. In The Wave, she depicts Matsu’s towering granite seaside wall, with an undertone of earthy red, but the moss, lichen, and green plants in the rock crevices fill the scene with life. There are clear layers in the colors of the sea, and the color gradient in the sky gives the picture a dreamlike feeling. The image comprises numerous images, both real and imagined, and all of the man-made elements of the scene have been deliberately removed, in order to restore it to its most pristine natural appearance. Li Yu-Chen, who loves nature, chooses to work in woodblock printing, since the wooden boards are closest to nature. Her unique block-carving process and slow pace give her more time to think and meditate.
