作品賞析
For the artist Liao Wen-Hao, ink painting is quite fascinating. Just relying on the tonality of ink, dry and wet, and the techniques of outlining, dotting, washes, and so on, he can create powerful compositions on thin paper and silk. This giant work, Chi, is an expression of the Buddhist idea of “Mount Sumero contained in a mustard seed.” We see the immense Mount Sumero emerge like a curl of light smoke, floating up from an incense burner in the shape of a mustard seed. The mustard seed supports the mighty and rugged Mount Sumero. Even though it is tiny, it accommodates Mount Sumero without any hindrance. Liao Wen-Hao is always experimenting and trying to make breakthroughs in the field of contemporary ink painting, and he has found his own foothold between tradition and innovation. Through his works, full of poetry and Buddhist-influenced imagery, the viewer can roam leisurely through landscapes and experience a transcendent, unrestrained feeling at each moment.
