LIAO Wen-Hao draws on the nourishment from the works of historically famous painters, transforms the beauty of the work into the ink creation of "mountain, water, people", and attempts to open up new propositions for contemporary ink art. In his work, Clouds Float in Pine Forest, a man is in the forest, tied with hairpins, and wears no clothing, much like a literato who is free of all worldly distractions. The forest is surrounded by pine trees, which are evergreen, resistant to the coldness and dryness, elegant, quiet, and possess characteristics of vigor and pride. They are the plants that oftentimes project anthropomorphic characteristics since ancient times. The painting creates a sort of freedom away from the real world that seems empty and poetic. LIAO Wen-Hao emulates the literary spirit of landscape painting with contemporary techniques, using painting to escape the trammels in life and pursue the freedom within one’s heart.
