LIAO Wen-Hao searches for the Tao (the way) espoused by Laozi and Zhuangzi, and pays homage to snippets and writings of ancient masters to convert them into abstract landscape paintings that depict the mountains, waters, and people. The artist starts from the spiritual aspects to build a relationship between people and nature, allowing personal feelings to flow across the composition to build an emotional refuge. The Islands of Wind is a composition where thin layers of color were allowed to overlap with each other to create a landscape where virtual elements mix with physical forms. Islands are scattered about in an orderly fashion and floating with the clouds. Strange looking pines and trees grow from these islands as tiny creek cascades through the landscape.
