LIAO Wen-Hao, an artist who draws nourishment from the works of famous painters over the generations, turns the beauty of model copies into brush and ink creations. He also tries to combine traditional landscapes with the human figure, pushing contemporary brush and ink painting into a whole new form. In Winter Picture three cute chubby babies are linked up to form in a ring, their rolling little bodies twisting around. No matter what angle you look from, each head can be linked up with a neighboring body, fitting in entirely around the circle, never clashing, demonstrating the artist's attention to layout and composition. The entire work uses the ""circle"" to communicate imagery. It symbolizes the idea of things being ""satisfactory,"" expressing the hope for a good life so much a part of traditional Chinese thinking, as well as the classical style of a never-ending cycle.
