WU Cheng-Han simulates ancient paintings with acrylic paintings and uses creatures in the nature for observation and depiction. In the work, Roam, with meticulous brushwork and mottled, yellowed color tones, an ink painting landscape from the ancient time is created. The composition of the painting is not limited to the form of traditional ink painting. The distant view, there is a mountain range that stretches for thousands of miles. In the close-up view, there is a steep mountain rock. Two dragonflies depicted in close-ups become the main subjects of the painting. WU Cheng-Han transforms the material vocabulary of ink painting, using the nature’s unchanging principle, that the weak becomes the prey of the strong, as a reflection of the competition and mode of operation in human society.
