WU Cheng-Han simulates ancient paintings with acrylic paintings and uses creatures in the nature for observation and depiction. In the work, Withered Tree, there stands an old tree in the background of a starry sky. It seems like the tree has been there for a long time. Although it is close to withering, it is still nourishing the other plants attached to it with its last remaining nutrients, attracting some butterflies as well. WU Cheng-Han transforms the material vocabulary of ink painting. With meticulous brushwork and mottled, yellowed color tones, an ink painting landscape from the ancient time is created. For him, the creatures in nature all follow the unchanging principle, that the weak becomes the prey of the strong, which is similar to the competition and mode of operation in human society.
