CHIU Chin-Ping presents the memory and emotions of her family metal factory using delicate and realist techniques. In Engraved –– Gray Temperature 01, a set of chained steel cables is in a gray-white, clean, cold-toning background. The figurative realism technique presents the texture and structural details of the cable one by one. Through her brushstrokes, the cold metal material is given an emotional warmth, depicting the unspeakable sadness under the changing times. The cables that are linked to each other are like the close connection between family members and the inseparable emotions. The seemingly ordinary object actually symbolizes CHIU Chin-Ping’s individual and familial imprint and simultaneously summons the viewer's collective memory of the Industrial Age.
